George Osborne revels in his remarkable reinvention as ‘Rambo’

Former chancellor says Daily Mirror front page is his favourite ever. But what is it up against?

George Osborne has laughed off reports that he has been “going Rambo” in Vietnam.

The former chancellor has stayed out of the public eye since being sacked from the cabinet by Theresa May. But he has now been pictured venturing his frustrations while on holiday in Vietnam, by firing what is believed to be an M60 light machine gun.

According to the Daily Mirror, Osborne’s 15-year-old son filmed his dad “going Rambo” at a former Viet Cong base near Ho Chi Minh city.

One British tourist told the Mirror: “He really let rip. We were all having a bit of a laugh about it — that he was aiming at a picture of Boris Johnson or Theresa May!”

Another tourist said the weapon used was “one of those really, really big machine guns — the Rambo-style one.”

Rather than downplay his escapades in Vietnam, the former chancellor is embracing the media coverage.

On Twitter, Osborne suggested that he finally had a Mirror front page that he could frame in his downstairs toilet.

“After all these years, I finally have a front page in the Daily Mirror worth keeping,” he stated.

Whatever could mean?
