Priti Patel’s pal warns the prime minister: Don’t make her angry
Theresa May could end up with another George Osborne on her hands, it has been suggested.
After getting the sack, many politicians choose to sit tight, keep their noses clean and hope for another chance in a few years’ time.
Members of this group include Chris Grayling, who was dumped as shadow home secretary by David Cameron in 2009 for saying that people who ran bed and breakfasts in their homes should “have the right” to turn away gay couples. After three years of good behaviour, he was eventually allowed back into Cameron’s top team in 2012 as justice secretary.
Others respond to being sacked by letting rip from the backbenches. Or the pages of a major newspaper.
Members of this group include Nicky Morgan, Anna Soubry and George Osborne, who was recently reported to have told his new colleagues that he would not rest until Theresa May was "chopped up in bags in my freezer".
If Priti Patel was to get the chop, which category would she fall into? According to one “ally” quoted by The Telegraph, it is very much the one where Morgan, Soubry and Osborne are to be found.
“She is going to be pretty angry if she is sacked and she could do some pretty hard damage to Downing Street," said the ally.
“Number 10 is being naive, the prime minister will create an even bigger problem for herself if she sacks Priti.”
