David Cameron's communcations chief will be played by an actor who once portrayed a prime minister having sex with a pig.

Earlier this year Channel 4 announced that Benedict Cumberbatch was to have a starring role in its hotly-anticipated TV drama about the EU referendum campaign.

Now the broadcaster has revealed what Cumberbatch will look like as Dominic Cummings - and who else has been signed up to play leading roles:

Vote Leave chief executive Matthew Elliott is set to be played by John Heffernan who portrayed Lord Altrincham in The Crown.

UKIP donor Aaron Banks is to be played by former Coronation Street actor Lee Boardman

Boris Johnson will be played by Richard Goulding - aka Prince Harry in The Windsors…

And most notably, David Cameron’s communications chief Craig Oliver will be played by Rory Kinnear.

A well-known stage and screen actor, Kinnear won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor after starring as Iago in Othello at the National Theatre in 2013 and has appeared in The Imitation Game, Skyfall and The Hollow Crown. He is also no stranger to political roles having played Denis Thatcher in the 2008 BBC dramatisation of the early years of Margaret Thatcher's political career, The Long Walk to Finchley.

And he appeared in an episode of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror, playing a prime minister who had sex with a pig live on TV in order to satisy demands made by kidnappers.
