Rejoice! The UN Security Council has actually decided to act. Ok, so it took them a long time to reach this conclusion (a conclusion that any right thinking person reached weeks ago). But hey, they got there in the end! Isn't that what counts?
No.
But don't take my word for it. Just ask all those who died needlessly while the UN twiddled its fingers. Their silence says it all.
As I wrote previously, the UN has failed Libya. And belated action doesn't detract from that failure.
Let's hope the no-fly zone achieves its objective. But let's also take a moment to consider that that objective might very well have been achieved already had the UN acted in the first instance.

Agreed Shane. The UN were much too slow in making this resolution. The wheels of international diplomacy grind too slowly in these situations. The UN seem to be reactive rather than pro active as do most governments.

This blog seems to be totally right wing now - am I right. When the interests of the Empire and robbibg third world countries we must all hop to it. Gaddafi is lying and the good agents of imperialist plander are telling the truth, as usual. I found this piece on the net and was so outraged by it that I lampooned it. It seems everyone here will agree with it, apart from a few marginalised "dissidents"
Did or would you vote for this??

Socialist Resistance Conference resolution:
“All the assets of Gaddafi’s regime held outside of Libya should be seized and handed over to the revolutionary forces so that they can purchase arms, food and medical resources necessary in their fight.
The Transitional National Council (TNC) should be recognised as the interim government of the whole of Libya.
All oil and commercial contracts with the Gaddafi regime should be cancelled, and that zero-interest credit be given with no strings to the Transitional National Council for the purchase of arms and other necessities.”
“All oil and commercial contracts with the Gaddafi regime should be cancelled, and that zero-interest credit be given with no strings to the Transitional National Council for the purchase of arms and other necessities.”
These demands are in the passive tense so as not to mention to whom they are directed. Let us put them in the active tense so we can supply the agents of change that will lead the revolution in Libya:
Obama, Cameron, Sarkozy and all the rest of the world’s imperialist powers: Seize all the assets of Gaddafi’s regime held outside of Libya and hand over to your allies, the revolutionary forces, so that they can purchase arms, food and medical resources necessary in their fight! (Have they not done that already? At any rate give no arms, food or medicine to the horrible scabs that support Gaddafi who deserve to die for opposing Obama!)
You must not, of course, look for any recompense for these altruistic acts!
Obama, Cameron, and all the rest of the world’s imperialist powers: Recognise the Transitional National Council (TNC) as the interim government of the whole of Libya.
(Fortunately revolutionary France has once again come up trumps for the revolution, Sarkozy is the new Robespierre, Marx, Lenin and Trotsky rolled into one!)
ENI, Repsol and Total etc, Cancel all oil and commercial contracts with the Gaddafi regime, Obama, Cameron, Sarkozy and all the rest of the world’s imperialist powers and world bankers: Give zero-interest credit with no strings to the Transitional National Council for the purchase of arms and other necessities.
Socialist Resistance, The British Section of the Fourth International has absolutely no doubt that Obama, Cameron, and all the rest of the world’s imperialist powers are the best people to lead this struggle together with their agents, the CIA funded Monarchists and Al Qaeda fighters of Benghazi will not fail the working class and oppressed of the world in this glorious task!
Forward to the world revolution!
