30 MPs-in-waiting to watch out for in Westminster
Which new MPs are likely to have the biggest policy impact in the next Parliament?
The general election is not over yet but some pundits are already looking beyond June 8 to identify the next batch of Westminster movers and shakers.
According to public affairs agency Public First, there are 30 candidates in winnable seats who stand out as ones to watch.
Some of them are hoping to bag safe seats, while others have been selected in places where current odds heavily favour them. Most of the 30 are Conservatives, reflecting the result that is predicted by pollsters.
Very nearly half are women, while three are from BME communities. None are Lib Dems, reflecting the fact that the party's best chances of adding seats next month are in places where already well-known former MPs like Vince Cable are standing again.
Public First founding partner James Frayne said: "All these names are already seasoned and respected figures who will begin shaking things up on crucial policy areas the moment they arrive in the Commons."
