Shocking scenes as Tory MP and Sun journalist on rampage in Europe

Johnny Mercer and Tom Newton Dunn in fancy dress furore.

Throughout the years, many politicians have found ways of getting close to The Sun’s political editors.

Back in 2001, Tony Blair chose to tip off the paper’s then political editor Trevor Kavanagh about the date of the general election that year. Or so rivals claimed.

In 2017, Tory MP Johnny Mercer has taken a rather different approach with current political editor Tom Newton Dunn.

Namely sharing a tandem bike with the Sun man. While dressed up as a woman.

The fun-loving pair donned the shocking gear as they took part in the Big Battlefield Bike Ride, which has seen them pedalling for 350 miles between Lille and Arnhem to raise money for Help for Heroes.

So far, Mercer and Newton Dunn have already raised more than £9,000 for the charity, which supports those with injuries and illnesses sustained while serving in the British Armed Forces.

And, having seen ‘TND’ at close quarters, former Army officer Mercer now reckons he might have got to the bottom of how leading journalists operate.

He says: "They read all the other papers and they write it themselves and claim it was their own story."
