The transport secretary made it clear whose side he thought the boundary review would favour at a reception in Manchester

Philip Hammond caused a bit of a stir with a light-hearted remark about the ongoing boundary review at a ConservativeHome reception last night.

Praising the website, he told the audience: “... With your help – and a little help from the boundary review – hopefully we will be back in 2015 with a Conservative majority government.”

Sources close to Hammond stressed that the remarks were made in jest.

But his comment is likely to add fuel to the fire, after Labour and Liberal Democrat mutterings about gerrymandering.
