Tory MP Kevin Foster warms to comparisons with Emmanuel Macron
The Torbay MP is 38 and his wife Hazel Noonan is 66.
When Conservative MP Kevin Foster was preparing to tie the knot, the papers were keen to compare his relationship to that of Emmanuel Macron.
The Torbay MP married divorced Hazel Noonan this summer - some 17 years after meeting her on the Tory campaign trail in Coventry when he was a fresh-faced Warwick University student and she was standing in council elections.
The Sun said that Foster was "doing a Macron", The Times called him "Torbay’s Macron" and the Daily Star enthused: "Move over Macron!"
And the Daily Mail reported that Foster was having none of it.
"I’ve never really thought of Hazel as older,” Foster said at the time. "Since we first met as friends and colleagues we always got on, we enjoyed the same things and it went from there."
But with Macron now settled in the Elysee Palace, Foster appears to have changed his tune slightly.
“I confess I do like the Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron comparison,” Foster told the Sunday Times.
“Yet no one mentions age when it comes to men with younger women. How often does Donald Trump get asked about the age gap with Melania?”
