Biteback will publish 'definitive biography' written by Rosa Prince.

A biography of Britain’s new prime minister Theresa May will be on the shelves by the turn of the year.

Theresa May: The Path to Power will be available in January 2017 and backed by a “major publicity campaign”, Biteback publishing said today.

The book, written by former Telegraph journalist Rosa Prince, is said to detail the story of “one of the most extraordinary people ever” to become prime minister.

May enters Downing Street as Britain’s second female prime minister.

Prince, who this year released a biography of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, said of the book: “It is an honour to be writing the life of Britain's second female Prime Minister – particularly when she is as fascinating and impressive a character as Theresa May.

“The events leading up to her coronation were among the most dramatic in modern British politics and will make for a compelling story.”

Biteback managing director Iain Dale said: “Theresa May’s astonishing victory marks the culmination of the most extraordinary few weeks in recent British political history. As our second female Prime Minister enters No. 10, I’m delighted that Biteback will be publishing this definitive biography.”

May became MP for Maidenhead in 1997, quickly entering then Tory leader William Hague's frontbench in 1998, before joining the shadow cabinet from 1999 onwards.

The 59-year-old has spent six years as home secretary and will fall just short of the record tenure in the post.

Last week she received 199 nominations in the second ballot of Tory MPs for the Conservative leadership race, and secured the top job after her rival Andrea Leadsom dropped out of the contest.
