Damian Green MP has successfully won his battle to have his DNA removed from the national database since no charges were brought against him following his arrest last year.
This will undoubtedly reignite the debate and lead to fresh calls to have the DNA of all innocent people removed from the database. Currently DNA profiles can only be removed at the discretion of chief constables, so the vast majority of requests fail.
Green argued he was an “exceptional case” and therefore should be removed.
But why is he such an exceptional case?
Surely this is further evidence of just how unfair the system is, one rule for those in the public eye and another for Mr. and Mrs. Bloggs.
