According to the MJ, us parish councils are in line for David Cameron's warm embrace.

The magazine looked ahead to the Tories conference and what it might disclose on Conservative plans for local government.

Among the few clues offered so far are a bonfire of regulations and a bare cupboard when it comes to extra funding.

Also in the bullet list of pledges is "parishes should be celebrated and nurtured".

Which sounds lovely. I could do with some nurturing and I'm not going to turn down any celebrating.

In practical terms though, our parish could do some cash to provide basic facilities and expertise to draw upon so we can do our job better.

Harriet Harman said of Cameron "He'll promise you the world. But if he ever got his wicked way with you - in the ballot box - you'd never hear from him again."

If we're going to be embraced by a future Conservative PM I hope he can offer more than warm words the morning after.
