Inches.
Elections are won by votes, votes are won on the doorsteps, to get to the door steps you need to cover miles, miles are made up by feet, feet by inches, elections are won in inches.
“Nobody reads the local paper”
Nobody, really?
“Young people don’t vote”
Yes minister
“Nobody is in during the day”, “everyone will be watching the football”, “nobody likes answering the door after dark”......
Tell you what, let’s not bother.
Truth is, I have a lot of sympathy with these views. They are nearly right. Elections are a slow hard grind There is no magic spell to fill ballot boxes.
Yes you must focus your resources, but when you are conceding ground make sure you realise your opponents will take that ground. Are you happy with them taking it? If not don’t give up that inch.
Elections are won and lost in inches.
