Why did you get involved in the political world?
Because I believe it is possible to change things for the better.
When did you join your political party?
In January 1987 because I wanted to help oust Margaret Thatcher and defeat the Tories.
What is your earliest political memory?
My parents were both Labour activists. Two early memories: I remember sitting on my dad's shoulders in a sea of people at a CND rally in London, and helping my mother deliver her council election leaflets when I was in my pushchair – she was elected.
Which one law would you introduce?
A fully elected second chamber to replace the House of Lords is now very overdue, but at least it's on its way.
What’s your favourite view in the world?
On a clear day at Trelissick near Truro you can see right down the Fal estuary, with Pendennis and St Mawes castles and straight out to sea.

I have two:

Have you ever cried at a film? Which one(s)?
Recently the 'Against the Odds' video shown at Labour Party conference brought tears to my eyes. 'Reds' made me cry but I haven't seen it for years.

I buy local newspapers and get other news from the internet including watching TV news online.

Twitter, political news, and political blogs.
What do you never miss on TV?
Nothing.
