Henry Bolton is back with new party that will ‘talk up’ Britain
The former Ukip leader is now speaking the language of Andrea Leadsom and Suella Fernandes.
Speaking on Newsnight last year, Andrea Leadsom controversially called on the media to get behind Brexit, saying: “It would be helpful if broadcasters were willing to be a bit patriotic.”
In the Commons a few months later, fellow Tory Brexiteer Suella Fernandes revealed her masterplan for making a success of Brexit.
“We have to talk up the opportunities. We are the sixth-largest economy in the world. We have the world’s language. We are leaders of the Commonwealth. We have a legal system emulated around the world, a parliamentary system envied by other countries, and financial services that are unrivalled,” she declared in the Commons.
And now former Ukip leader Henry Bolton has declared that he is setting up a new party to do just as Fernandes outlined.
The new outfit will be called One Nation. Policies are currently being drafted and membership will be open soon, according to the website.
When asked why a new party was needed, Bolton told the BBC: “There is a need for a truly professional political party that believes in Britain, that preserves our national identity, culture, heritage and confidence and talks our great nation up rather than down.”
Bolton is yet to announce any big defections from the Tory party…
