Watch: The grime artist closed the show with what Jeremy Corbyn called 'a powerful performance'.

Labour MPs led by Jeremy Corbyn have praised  Stormzy after he slammed Theresa May over 'money for Grenfell' in a performance at last night’s Brit Awards.

The grime star beat Ed Sheeran to win best British male and also picked up best British album before closing the show with a politically-charged performance, during which he name-checked the prime minister over the Grenfell Tower fire.

He was heard rapping: "Yo Theresa May, where's the money for Grenfell?

"What, you thought we just forgot about Grenfell? You criminals, and you've got the cheek to call us savages, you should do some jail time, you should pay some damages, you should burn your house down and see if you can manage this."

On Twitter, Corbyn congratulated Stormzy for his "powerful performance".

Labour MP for Tottenham David Lammy stated: "Respect Stormzy for speaking truth to power."

Similarly, Emma Dent Coat, Labour MP for Kensington, said: "Thank you for speaking truth to power, Stormzy. In Kensington we will never forget. We will never stop fighting for justice. No justice, no peace."

The performance came as the Tories look set for a humiliating defeat in at least three flagship London boroughs – Westminster, Wandsworth and Barnet - in the upcoming local elections.
