THE BEST OF THE BLOGS...WHAT'S BEEN SAID IN THE LAST MONTH

Pete Moore marvels at Goldman Sachs's third-quarter profits:
" What GS has demonstrated is the truth of what your parents told you, that all you need to succeed are simple hard work, determination, unswerving commitment, ownership of the federal reserve, control of the Treasury Department, the ability to borrow your freshly printed dollars at one per cent, an arrangement to swap them for four per cent Treasury Stock, hundreds of millions of taxpayers to weigh you out and a puppet president. "

Stuart Sharpe paints Bono as the unlucky runner-up for Obama's Nobel Peace Prize:
" The thing about Bono is that he really annoys us. So much so that it doesn't matter if you're English, Scottish, French, American, Canadian, French-Canadian, Irish, Conservative, Socialist, or even if you're an investment banker: we are all drawn together by our dislike of this man...For all we know, Bono may be all that stands between us and thermo-nuclear destruction. "
Stuart Sharpe marries political analysis with an enthusiasm for web development. Sharpe's Opinion is at http://sharpesopinion.co.uk/
Robin Horbury questions the wisdom of the BBC's designated authority on genetically-modified crop production:
" This is, of course, a cue for the BBC to talk to every organisation under the sun which wants to ban such production, as well as to show a picture of Paul McCartney, a rather good singer who, for some reason best known to himself, has appointed himself a scientific expert and thinks he knows that GM foods are dangerous and
harmful. "

Tom Watson MP notes that the Taxpayers' Alliance is not all that the name suggests:
" Alexander Heath doesn't pay tax in Britain. He's a director of the Taxpayers' Alliance (of Britain). As well as being exposed for being a shallow campaign front for the Tories, the Taxpayers' Alliance should also be prosecuted under the Trades Description Act. "
Watson indulges an enthusiasm for social media at http://www.tomwatson.co.uk/
Underdogs Bite Upwards resents being called names:
" People like you are like medication to me. You get my [blood] pressure up to normal. My refusal to accept an unproved diktat as 'science' does not make me a climate denier, any more than my absence from church makes me a satanist. I do not deny that the climate changes... I deny that it is currently warming, based on
science."

BLOGGER PROFILE: BENEDICT PRINGLE POLITICAL ADVERTISING
Who are you?
My name is Benedict Pringle. I work within the daily election of brand competition at London advertising agency AMV BBDO. Politics is my hobby.
Where?
Political Advertising: http://politicaladvertising.co.uk
When did you start blogging?
28 October 2008.
Why did you start blogging?
I had a meeting with a 'social media engagement' agency who let on that they take bloggers out for lunch in order to try and get them to write something favourable about a given event/brand/person. I hate the idea of missing but on a lunch opportunity.
How would you describe the blog?
The blog is a 'documentation and commentary on political advertising'. Political advertising is no longer curtailed to political institutions' broadcasting to an electorate. Now activists, bloggers and video-makers can produce and distribute content that affects the manner in which people think about political issues in tangible ways.
What has been your most controversial moment?
In June this year, Che Guevara's granddaughter, Lydia, modelled semi-naked in an advert for PETA (the animal rights group), whilst she mimicked her father's iconic revolutionary image. I blogged to say that, whilst it was her call as to the honorability of her participation using her relation's equity, I felt it was at best cheap and at worst dishonourable - a barrage of emails ensued.
