Total Politics 2010 Election Map

Total Politics - because knowledge is power

It’s not easy being a politician. You are expected to have something to say on everything. Thankfully Total Blag is on hand to keep politicians on the go in the know.

  • The names of two Big Brother contestants should suffice for the ninth instalment currently dominating Channel 4 schedules – Dennis, a 23 year old dance teacher from Edinburgh, is as camp as Christmas and thinks everyone should wear fake tan while Mario (real name, Sean) is a square-jawed Home Office civil servant.
  • England aren’t involved in Euro 2008 so it’s probably safest to support Switzerland since they’re joint hosts with Austria. You can be consistent and also support Roger Federer at Wimbledon.
  • A pint of milk now costs around 42p in supermarkets.
  • Smoking will be banned in public buildings and bars in the Netherlands from 1 July - just so you know. The infamous coffee shops must have designated smoking rooms.
  • The G8 summit in Japan takes place in Tōyako (not Tokyo!) from 7-9 July. It is the 34th time the forum has taken place.
  • Bill Gates steps down from a full time role at Microsoft at the end of June after 33 years. He will work one day a week at the computer giant and spend most of his time focusing on his philanthropic activities.
  • Cambodia is the only country in the world holding a parliamentary election this month. Voting will happen on 27 July.
  • 27,000 kilos of strawberries will be eaten at Wimbledon. They’re served with over 7,000 litres of cream.
  • The movie version of the hit musical Mamma Mia is in cinemas from 11 July. Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep take lead roles.
  •  The Ford Focus is the bestselling car in England and Northern Ireland, while the Fiesta is top in Wales. The number one car in Scotland is the Vauxhall Corsa.
