Starring David Haig, Clive Francis and Beatie Edney
This is one of Alan Bennett’s best-received plays. It debuted at the National Theatre in 1991 and was famously adapted into a film starring Nigel Hawthorne and Helen Mirren. After the success of a recent revival at the Theatre Royal Bath, the play will run for a limited season.
With Olivier award-winner David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral) in the lead role, expect a powerful depiction of Hanoverian lunacy. Bennett’s flirtation with a career as a historian shows in the accurate depiction of the politics of the day.
Productions runs 18 January to 31 March at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London
