A 16-year-old teenager plans to stand for the North Nailbourne seat in the 2011 local elections in Canterbury. Alex Ellis-Roswell will be 18 years and six weeks old by the time of the election. If he gets enough votes he will be the youngest councillor in the country. The boy from Kent is representing the little-known Libertarian Party.

A BNP councillor from Barking & Dagenham was removed from a civic reception because he was drunk. BNP man Bob Bailey has been asked to resign but says he has done nothing wrong. Bailey claims that the organisers of the event wouldn't let him give his speech and tried to censor him.

Bristol city councillors have launched a new project redistributing decision-making powers on expenditures. Powers have been devolved to allow ward councillors spending money on minor projects that will lead to improvements at a small-scale level.
