As we all await the pitter-patter of tiny pre-budgets this afternoon, spare a thought for Unlock Democracy, who have gamely launched their Stamp Out Voting Fraud campaign today.

Flying in the face of accepted wisdom that campaign launches shouldn't clash with major political events, Unlock Democracy has three main aims:

  • Individual voter registration

  • Increased ballot security

  • A more powerful Electoral Commission

Timing is everything, and there is a reason they chose this Monday to launch the campaign. Last Thursday (20th November), the government decided to block opposition amendments to the Political Parties and Elections Bill designed to tackle electoral fraud.
