Whilst we were preparing the December issue of Total Politics the office was even more abuzz than usual with excitement over one of our features, we were all busy guessing and arguing who would top our poll of the Top 100 Political Journalists. The office thought Paxman was odds on favourite to top the poll with other favourites including Marr, Dimbleby, Crick, Humphreys and Robinson snapping at his heels.

However, it wasn’t us who got to decide; instead we polled the Total Politics facebook group members, political journalists themselves, members of parliament and then amalgamated them to form the Total Politics top 100.

And although we weren’t too far off the mark we were all shocked who did make number one on the list, Evan Davis. It seems his spot on the Today Programme has earned him a great deal of respect and admiration, no longer viewed solely as an economics journalist but also as a political journalist. Paxman is a close second with Matthew Parris in third. The rest of the results for the top ten are as follows:

4. Nick Robinson

5. John Humphreys

6. Martha Kearney

7. Andrew Marr

8. Andrew Rawnsley

9. Trevor Kavanagh

10. Peter Riddle

For the rest you will have to check out the Total Politics website and do let us know your top political journalists.
