Lord Ashdown is a former leader of the Liberal Democrats and served as the Member of Parliament for Yeovil until 2001. Latterly he served as the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and received his GCMG in 2006.

Brian Brivati is professor of contemporary history at Kingston University, and is a widely published author having appeared in the Guardian, Independent on Sunday, the Observer, the Times, the Financial Times, the New Statesman.

Shami is the director of civil liberties pressure group Liberty. In 2006 she was shortlisted in the Channel 4 Political Awards for the "Most Inspiring Political Figure" award, and received her CBE in 2007.
