David Cameron’s PMQ questions about government funding for Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation raise some interesting points. Which is more of a threat to our way of life and safety: home-grown Islamists or the activities of various Afghan tribesmen? Most sane people would plump for the former, and would be angered by the thought of their taxes funding Islamists with connections to the banned organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir. How is this allowed to happen? Isn't there a massive disconnect between flying our soldiers half way around the globe to fight Islamic extremists, whilst subsidising them at home?
UPDATE:
Ms Diana R. Johnson's responsed for the government to Michael Gove's question about the suitability of the Islamic Shakhsiyah Foundation to receive governmnent funding, noting that the people running it are given a criminal background check and are expected to "ensure that the school meets all the requirements of the regulations including the quality of the teaching, the spiritual moral, social and cultural development of pupils and the welfare, health and safety of pupils". It would be interesting to know what is taught in relation to children's "spiritual moral, social and cultural development" but this may all be more innocent than my first thoughts implied. But you can never be sure. It certainly warrents further investigation.
