It is easy to see why Obama chose Joe Biden as his running mate, Biden has all the qualities that Obama lacks. As the campaign gets dirtier charisma will not be enough, Biden brings experience and knowledge, he is also white and a more typical presidential candidate. Interestingly McCain's response ad says nothing of Biden, rather it is entitled 'Passed Over' and comments on why Obama did not choose Hillary Clinton.

Perhaps the reasoning is that the main target for attacks has to be Obama, or perhaps the McCain camp have yet to find a basis on which to attack Biden. An interesting tactic!
