Boris Johnson answered select questions from his Twitter followers in a 30-minute online Q&A session this afternoon.   

Here are some of the highlights:

Byng: Why did you want to become mayor?

Boris: It all started when I was nearly killed by a sodding bendy bus...seriously

Boris: the molten magma hot tomato stuff made by Julian in the gla fair trade canteen

Cool beans Rachel: What is your daily morning routine to get you ready for the mayorly tasks of the day?

Boris: I always go for a run no matter how slow and painful...days can only get better

Gaz Weetman:  The Gamesmakers have been excellent.  Will you please fund some to stay on after the games shouting uplifting messages on the tube

Borris:  all the volunteers- team London ambassadors and games makers- have been one of the biggest triumphs

Boris: Yes absolutely and don’t worry if you fail at first...I once tried to make ceramic tiles..fiasco

Lottie Dexter: Why are compulsory work experience placements at social enterprises and charities not private companies

Boris: we are doing 250,000 apprenticeships most of them in private cos...check website

Monk4now: Seems like a lot of big crime in the city, what can you do about Banks and Bankers who abuse trust and shame London?

Boris:  bang em up

Aisha BOOM: Why don’t you give Ken a chance?

Boris: I gave him two excellent chances

Edward Kelly: What’s your opinion on Scotland having a referendum on Independance in 2014? Would love to know.

Boris: the Scots are never going to vote for independence...these games have done for Salmond...vote hoy

Kyle Ginn: What has been your favourite moment of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics so far?

Boris: it’s got to be Laura Trott and then the mo farah double plus beating France

Jude Elliott-Jones: Can your incompetency be learned or is it genetic?

Boris: ask Richard Dawkins or some evolutionary biologist
