With just over two weeks to go until the start of the Games, the Olympic Village has finished its preparations for the thousands of people due to stay throughout the summer. Here are some of the first shots from inside the Olympic Village.

Friends and family will be able to relax with athletes in the green open-spaces around the Village

The 360,000 metres-square village, located within the Olympic Park at Stratford, will provide accommodation for around 17,000 athletes in 11 apartment blocks.

Despite problems with security firm G4S, Boris insists the issues are just "jitters"

Every room will also have a TV and wireless internet access.

The mock-ups for the rooms show spacious rooms and beds with colourful duvets, imprinted with the words of the Olympic values, "excellence, friendship and respect".

The athletes will be training in this high-tech gym

Just a short walk from the arenas, the Village provides many purpose-built social areas, including outdoor green spaces and pool tables, a performance area, and a stylish pub with free soft drinks.

The swish computer suite will be a relaxing area for athletes to check emails

The Village Plaza will provide facilities for the guests throughout the Games, including a Post Office, dry cleaners, a salon and a bank.

 

Athletes can relax between events with a game of pool, or get a free haircut or massage

Most of the officials and athletes are due to arrive in the village next week ready for the state of the Games on July 27.

Facilities include a computer suite, shops and restaurants and multiple gyms. The Village features luxury games and music rooms for athletes to relax in in between events.

Free condoms are also to be provided throughout the Village from vending machines.

Boris enjoys a meal in the new canteen, reportedly the largest in the world

The 24 hour, 5,000 seat canteen includes nutritional information for the athletes on all of its food, and has been described by Mayor of London Boris Johnson as one of the “seven wonders of the catering world”.

Athletes will be able to carefully monitor what they're eating in the 24-hour canteen which is predicted to serve 45,000 meals per day

The Village has been in construction since 2008, and after the Games will be transformed into 2,000 new homes for the area, supported by new transport links and facilities.

Competitors from the 205 nations will receive their personal results in these individual trays
