PMQs: Miliband rejects banking inquiry plans

“On the substance of the issue, there is no disagreement between us.” Friendly Dave reached out with imploring eyes to Ed Miliband across the House during PMQs today, beseeching co-operation in the guise of consensus on the public parliamentary inquiry he proposes to investigate the recent sordid skulduggery of our bankers.
The prime minister tried to sustain this language of consensus throughout his grilling from Miliband, who even earnestly joined in on occasion

I arrived back in my office this afternoon just in time to hear Labour’s deputy leader Harriet Harman deliver – with all the ponderous determination of a four-year-old narrator at a school nativity play – what can loosely be termed “a funny”.
I didn’t catch the details, it was something about the prime ministerial penchant for the “LOL” abbreviation, and the Labour benches duly turned on the canned laughter.

It took 28 minutes for someone to mention the Eurozone crisis at PMQs this afternoon and, even then, there was a disappointing lack of eurogeddon, Grexit or Spailout puns.
The reason for the euro-silence was that MPs were drooling over Leveson, in the week that most major political figures from the last ten years give evidence.
Political porn for pundits, but a headache for David Cameron.

Has David Cameron adopted 'fire at will' early? There were no Lib Dems sat on the frontbench at all at PMQs today.
Maybe the PM took Adrian Beecroft's advice and binned 'em? He certainly looked angry enough.
Maybe the Lib Dem frontbenchers felt they couldn't maintain their 'neutral' faces well enough for the cameras?
Or perhaps they were enjoying the sun? Or bidding for Olympics tickets?

"Europe needs a proper growth plan, which this prime minister has failed to argue for," said Ed Miliband at PMQs today.
It is a tricky one for David Cameron to come back to, you see. The prime minister, of course, has a role to play in the eurozone crisis. But with a new French president and worsening situations in Spain and Greece, it's all a bit, well, up in the air.

The Speaker looked 'well jel' after the prime minister took a swipe at Bercow's "kaleidoscope queen" comment at PMQs today.
Shuuut up! I know right.
Yes, it's finally happened. Reality TV phenomenon The Only Way is Essex has made its way into the Commons chamber.
It started quite innocently. Conservative MP Robert Halfon was boasting about his constituency of Harlow's business rate growth.

PMQs: Cameron's leap year proposal

An engagement proposal is usually a private, magical moment. But David Cameron's use of the leap year tradition had nothing to do with a happy ending.
Using the 29 February as an excuse to break parliamentary tradition, he asked the Labour leader: "Isn't it time he told us what he is for?"
Miliband didn't get an opportunity to respond – the surprise proposal came after his last question.
