After the decision today of the Northern Ireland Attorney General to drop his pending prosecution of the former Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Peter Hain MP and the Managing Director of Biteback Publishing Iain Dale, they said in a joint statement:
'This is a victory for freedom of speech. In September we will be publishing the paperback edition of Outside In without changing in any way the section that gave offence to
Northern Ireland's lack of donation transparency
by Anna Carragher / 20 Apr 2012 10:07
Party funding is once again in the spotlight. But during the ongoing debate about donations to political parties, one important area has received little attention in Great Britain – the lack of donation transparency in Northern Ireland.
The Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000, which established the Electoral Commission, put a legal duty on parties to ensure that any donations they accepted over more than a few hundred pounds come from a

I've always worn my opinion on my sleeve. When people ask how I feel about something, I probably won't shut up about it for a number of hours. Those who know me well will frequently complain that I rant more than is good for me. However, it is, perhaps for these reasons that I got involved with politics in general and more importantly with the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) as the member (MYP) for
Northern Ireland's rioting loyalists are traitors

Why are we waiting?

Sectarianism, outspoken politicians and a serious lack of urgency – Northern Ireland’s Assembly elections are renowned for three things, and this year’s polls have been no different.
A relatively stable period of power-sharing between the DUP’s Peter Robinson and Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness at Stormont has resulted in one of the most low-key election campaigns in recent history.
When constituents cast their votes in 2007, no-one was sure if the controversial coalition
On this day

Northern Ireland voters delivered a resounding yes to continued union with Great Britain on this day in 1973.
However, less than 1% of Catholics voted in the province-wide referendum, following a call from republican groups to boycott proceedings.
The result was a 98.9% vote in favour of union, which was welcomed by the then Unionist MP Ian Paisley, a figure who remained influential in Northern Irish politics as the head of the
