BoJo's 'cheery' message for Greece

BoJo's 'cheery' message for Greece

by Amber Elliott / 18 Jun 2012 11:49

"Every day we read of fresh horrors," wrote Boris Johnson as we awoke to news that Greek party New Democracy will try to form a coalition after its second round of elections.

"Once proud bourgeois families queuing for bread, of people in agony because the government has run out of money to pay for cancer drugs. Pensions are being cut, living standards are falling, unemployment is rising, and the suicide rate is

Siobhan Benita: 'Labour is in complete meltdown'

Siobhan Benita: 'Labour is in complete meltdown'

by Amber Elliott / 27 Apr 2012 14:34

It's raining in West London, and mayoral hopeful Siobhan Benita is running late.

Her car screeches to a halt outside Acton High School, mounting the curb. Benita springs out of the front seat joined by a small entourage – a PR woman (juggling/spilling four cups of coffee) and a camerawoman from a national newspaper.

A loose radio mic wire hangs down the side of Benita's neat, green, pleated dress.

"I'm never

Exclusive look at Ken's new policing vid

by Amber Elliott / 08 Feb 2012 08:17

Today Ken Livingstone has launched his latest campaign video – and this one's on police cuts.

Team Ken describes it as a "hard-hitting" video about victims of crime. As well as the video, there will be Facebook ads, text messages and emails to Londoners about his Police Pledge.

Yesterday, the former Mayor of London launched a pledge to reverse cuts to 1,700 police officers and reinstate sergeants to all 600

Just how far do Boris's plans for education go?

Just how far do Boris's plans for education go?

by Amber Elliott / 18 Oct 2011 16:21

Boris Johnson seemed to suggest he was looking to extend his power over education in London at a press gallery lunch today, although he admitted that his thinking is "not very far in advance".

Asked what makes a good mayor, Boris told his audience: "You need to have some role in education."

"That is not something at the moment that the Mayor of London has but it's very difficult to have a

Boris Johnson, the auctioneer

Boris Johnson, the auctioneer

by Holly Smith / 30 Sep 2011 10:50

Witnessing Boris Johnson auctioning off a portion of fish and chips for £100, in response to be being heckled in a warehouse in Ruislip, North West London, is not something you see every day. However that was the situation Conservative Party members found themselves in last night.

The mayor arrived to much excitement and made his speech with typical gusto. Being insulted by Harriet Harman is, according to the mayor, ‘like being savaged

Ken's back on the attack

Ken's back on the attack

by Amber Elliott / 25 Sep 2011 16:44

Ken Livingstone was rather quietly spoken in his address to Labour conference this afternoon. His words were anything but.

His main message was about reclaiming London for the people – at times it echoed Ed Miliband’s ‘vested interest’ argument.

His other theme was… Boris Johnson.

Well, anti-Boris Johnson to be exact.

Tessa Jowell, introducing Ken, spoke about how the party had to make sure that it was “not just a

Lembit Opik needs to go away

Lembit Opik needs to go away

by Shane Greer / 03 Mar 2011 11:36

I spotted Lembit Opik's mayoral campaign video on Guido yesterday evening and was blown away. Not in a good way you understand, no, I was blown away by Lembit's ability to find yet another way to lower a bar that was already sitting several floors below ground.

Lembit is a joke, we all know that.  If he adds any value to public life it's in his capacity to entertain.  But to
