It's raining in West London, and mayoral hopeful Siobhan Benita is running late.

Her car screeches to a halt outside Acton High School, mounting the curb. Benita springs out of the front seat joined by a small entourage – a PR woman (juggling/spilling four cups of coffee) and a camerawoman from a national newspaper.

A loose radio mic wire hangs down the side of Benita's neat, green, pleated dress.

This morning saw the first radio London mayoral debate of the campaign on LBC. When these events are reviewed, they usually fill space with descriptions of candidates going ‘toe-to-toe on bus fares’ or ‘clashing over affordable housing’. Well, no need for hyperbole today. The debate was dominated by issues such as housing, crime and transport, but it was what happened after the debate that is likely to grab headlines.

I spotted Lembit Opik's mayoral campaign video on Guido yesterday evening and was blown away. Not in a good way you understand, no, I was blown away by Lembit's ability to find yet another way to lower a bar that was already sitting several floors below ground.
