Miriam González Durántez has prided herself on her independence from her husband's political career, so her latest nickname in the Spanish media may cause a flicker of annoyance.

Spanish glossy title Telva described the international lawyer as "Britain's third lady", falling in line after the Queen and Samantha Cameron.

In an interview with the magazine, Mrs Nick Clegg also explains how they first met in Bruges as students.

She knew the DPM had fallen for her when he offered to join her Spanish class, according to a follow-up report in The Times this morning.

"When I saw Nick there trying to do it [dance sevillanas], that seemed like a declaration of love."

She also admits to sharing Clegg's political beliefs on the whole.

"There are some differences on small details," she says - but does not expand on what they are.
