I'm using the above extract from our data page in the current issue of the magazine as an excuse to remind you to vote today. Obviously, the big mayoral contests in London and Liverpool are attracting a lot of attention as is the Labour/SNP fight for control of Glasgow City Council, but representatives for hundreds of small councils, boroughs and unitary authorities all over the UK are being re-elected today as well. As you can see from our mention of Jack Chase above, many of them do amazing work with very little recognition beyond their immediate community.

Politically, today's outcome is a number's game. Labour need to justify their 13-point poll lead with council gains (they say 300 seats would do this, but I've seen estimates from experts go as high as 700). The Conservatives are braced for losses, but need to keep them down to a minimum to avoid perpetuating the 'omnishambles' any longer. The Lib Dems, who have always enjoyed a strong base in local government, will also be hoping not to lose seats quite like they did in 2011.

Analysis of all of that will follow tomorrow, but the most important thing is today is just to go and vote. Oh, and watch this rather attractive video TP made for the 2010 general election if you haven't quite made your mind up yet...
