A Tory peer has described the threat earlier this week to sabotage the government's entire legislative agenda as "a warning shot".

Rebel Tory peers have said they would take action if a bill to reform the House of Lords goes ahead, the Times revealed earlier this week.

Apparently, a group of 20 peers are willing to withdraw support from any government bill that comes before the upper chamber in their effort to stop an elected House of Lords.

One Conservative Lord, speaking to Total Politics, said that their offensive move (through The Times front-page) "went about as well as it could".

"We've been campaigning for a long while," said the peer.

And they added that there was "more to come" if the government does not take steps to amend the Lords reform bill.

While some are wary about the plans for an elected second chamber, Nick Clegg is clear that he wants to hold elections for the upper house by 2015.
