Home secretary Theresa May caught the heel of her shoe in a pavement crack on her way into No 10 this morning. She quickly recovered by telling the waiting press, "There's a photo for you."
After removing her kitten heel and prising it out of the crack, she continued on to her meeting with a straight face.
Former home secretary Jacqui Smith took to Twitter to express her sympathy.
"When I got my first ministerial job in 1998, my shoe fell off as I walked back down Downing Street," Smith wrote.
One must tread carefully in Downing Street, it seems.
