I had lunch with the charming Labour MP Gavin Shuker yesterday for TP's 'lunch with…' feature (out 24 January).
Among many other topics (which I'm holding for the next issue), the Labour MP for Luton South revealed an unusual way of classifying his fellow MPs.
He says there are two types of MP – cat MPs and dog MPs.
According to Shuker, a dog MP will bound up to you and hold friendly conversations (but probably draw the line at licking your face).
A cat MP, however, will watch from the sidelines. They may engage with you when the subject interests them, but do not expect a regular dialogue.
Dog MPs tend to be better with the public while cat MPs may be more cerebral.
I'll leave you to decide which honourable members might fall into either category.
Oh, and Shuker himself has a pet cat, but probably best not to read too much into that…
