You might think it's a yolk (sorry), but Ken Livingstone will today launch an online fundraising chicken.

The chicken – as yet nameless* – is designed to raise £10,000 towards Livingstone's campaign.

The chicken turns yellow from the feet upwards as the money comes in.

The idea came about after Team Ken accused Boris Johnson of 'being chicken' for refusing to debate the Labour mayoral candidate over travel fares.

A spokesman for the Johnson replied: "Until the former Mayor uses credible figures, the Mayor sees no merit in engaging with him on this."

In a separate effort to put egg on Boris's face (sorry again), Ken Livingstone's team also recently hired two chickens for a photo stunt outside City Hall.

It's been a busy week for Labour HQ – just yesterday Ken's team claimed to have 2,000 volunteers leafleting about the 'Fare deal' around London.

Perhaps the fundraising chicken is a necessary step after they handed out approximately 500,000 leaflets. These kind of campaigning techniques don't come cheap.

It may also rustle a few feathers over at Boris HQ (that's the last one, promise).

*UPDATE: You can now vote to name the chicken. My favourite is Boris Johns-hen...
