Dundee City Council chiefs have predicted 22,000 local jobs will be culled over the next two years. Up to 22,000 Scottish council workers will lose their jobs as departments for environment, transport services, education and learning are hit by spending cuts.

Gloucestershire City Council has been accused this morning of luring business away from its rival, Bristol City Council. Bristol is considering introducing an annual levy on firms that offer car parking for staff, forcing commuters out of their cars. Gloucestershire County Council leader Mark Hawthorne has announced that there will be no charges in his area in an attempt to get businesses to relocate over the border less than 20 miles away.

Former Liverpool Council leader Warren Bradley has called for an investigation into redundancy payments by the city to its top managers. He claims that the council paid between £300,000 and £500,000 to managers to stay away from work during their notice periods, which can extend for up to six months.

Cardiff City Council is to introduce the City Car Club to its streets this October. According to council leaders, the £120,000 scheme will help to greatly reduce the congestion being caused by privately-owned vehicles.
