The coalition cabinet have today held their first meeting outside of London. This is carrying on the tradition for Prime Minister's to take their cabinet out of the city which was started in the 1920s.
However, this was only revived by Gordon Brown who held the first cabinet meeting outside of London for decades in September 2008 when he took his cabinet to Birmingham. Cameron is continuing the tradition.

Cabinet meetings are held in a room under strict security, so it should not matter where that room is located. The members of the Cabinet are not likely to meet any more members of the public than they would do mormally so this idea is a nonsense and expensive nonsense. I had hoped that Cameron would change how the government acts, stop leaking, stop spinning, stop previewing announcements in the press and hold the Cabinet meetings in No 10 where there is a special room for that purpose. The people want good government not gimmicks.
