Following Iain Dale's interview with BNP leader Nick Griffin, Dominic Carman, Liberal Democrat PPC for Barking, responds.

The Liberal Democrats have a range of policies to address the many problems in Barking. But this blog is not a manifesto. It is a message to the people of Barking: look what Nick Griffin and the BNP have got planned for you.

Having interviewed Griffin on many occasions, I want to share with how mad and destructive Griffin's policies would be in practice; it helps to look beyond repatriation.

Take three of Griffin's answers from the Total Politics interview and contrast them with what he told me privately:

On Afghanistan: “The only way you could win there is if you nuked it, which can't be done.” He told me: “We should send (British) troops in to Afghanistan...and we should obliterate as many cities as it takes.”

On VAT: “We've never said we're increasing VAT.” He told me: “Income tax should be abolished. We need a complete shift from direct to indirect taxation.”

On Violence: “We do not practise or want to practise violence against anyone”. He told me: ''We (i.e. white people) have a right, arguably a duty to take arms...the only thing when it comes to that an oppressed minority will do to preserve itself will be by physical force.”

So Griffin's real plans include mass civilian bombing in Afghanistan, a catastrophically high rate of VAT and armed gangs on our streets. Truly barking.

What else does he have in store for you? Let's take a look at the 'Send Them Back'

policy, which resonates with some voters. Griffin's true thinking here can be seen in an interview he gave to Third Way magazine.

Here, Griffin argues: “We want to cut the population of this country. It isn't just foreigners. The population of this country should be about 35 million - it's ridiculously overcrowded and it's an appalling place for that reason.”

The current UK population is nearly 62 million. The last time we had 35 million citizens was back in 1890. Can Griffin turn back the clock 120 years? How will he get rid of 27 million people?

The 2011 census will probably show the non-white British population approaching 12 million people. Assume that Griffin could wave a wand and get rid of every black, brown, and mixed race citizen, plus every Jew and every Muslim to boot. He would still be 15 million above his target.

How will he reduce the number of white Brits by 15 million? A clue may lie in this YouTube clip on Griffin's attitude to crime and criminals.

Griffin reveals his thoughts on a national referendum to sterilise criminals. All criminals. Even petty thieves and burglars. Well over a million people in Britain have a criminal record. Several thousand of them are voters in Barking.

Would you really vote for a man who wants mass sterilisation as well as mass deportation? The choice is yours. Don't vote BNP on Election Day. But do vote. On behalf of the Liberal Democrats, that's my key message for the people of Barking and for the people of Britain.
