It’s been causing a lot of excitement in our office, so I thought it would be nice to share with you the wonder that is the BBC’s new website, Democracy Live. In case you haven't seen it, what has really impressed us about this site is the search function, which allows you to search look for specific words and skip straight to the moment they were spoken in the video. No more trawling through hours of select committee meetings on BBC Parliament to find what you’re looking for.

It covers the main chambers of the House of Commons, House of Lords, Scottish Parliament, Northern Ireland Assembly, Welsh Assembly and full sittings of the European Parliament, Westminster Hall and Select Committees at Westminster.

In terms of improvements, it might be more user-friendly if the search function saved key words that you’ve searched before, and I wonder whether there are plans to extend coverage to local government. Also, perhaps the ‘follow’ feature could be linked with twitter somehow, to alert you when a representative you have expressed interested in is speaking.

Overall though, the labour-saving potential of this site is tremendous. It brings a decidedly twenty first century edge to watching parliamentary discussion.
