The New York Times ran an article this weekend about how we are nearing the conclusion to a great electoral competition. The article had a tone of fondness and nostalgia for something that has been for me a corrupt circus filled with hypocrisy and lies, which is how it always seems. I voted, and like most times I've voted it's been to fight against the other guy. I've said it before and I'll say it again: both campaigns are filled with scandal, whether it's Obama's friends or Palin's family.
Back to this New York Times article, not only do I not have nostalgia, I am even more frustrated, because even when we have some respectable voter turnout, the voters continue to just spout out propaganda in exchange for their vote. There is no change. It's all the same. I'll agree a thousand times that this the time where we need some sound, fresh thinking. I will gladly concede to you basic ideas, but will argue that in practice these ideas mean something different, on both sides of the ballot. Both candidates are relatively weak: they both bow to pressure from their parties when it comes down to divisive issues. Oh disillusionment, when will you end? Until then I'll just sit back relax, and perform my constitutional duty to critique the system.
