Scotland
We now have the results for 73 of the 129 contested seats.
Since my results round-up this morning, the SNP widened its lead and achieved an overall majority with 65 seats, the first time any party has done so.
Labour continues to do badly:
SNP 53 (+32) | Lab 15 (-20) | Con 3 (-3) | Lib Dem 2 (-9)
Wales
One more council has announced its result since this morning’s round-up:
Lab 30 | Con 14 | PC 11 | Lib Dem 5
Although the Conservatives have increased their number of Assembly members by two, party leader Nick Bourne was defeated in the regional top-up elections for Mid and West Wales.
England
A further 47 councils results have come in. We now have results for 157 of the 279 contested seats:
Con 79 (+3) | Lab 38 (+16) | Lib Dem 8 (-5) | No overall control 31 (-11) | Other 0 (-3)
The Greens are now the biggest party in Brighton and Hove, gaining ten seats, eight of them from the conservatives.
Many of the seats previously in no overall control have gone to Labour.
No results yet for the Northern Irish election.
Scottish
60 of the 129 seats being contested have been declared.
This is how it stands at the moment:
SNP 41 (+26) | Lab 14 (-18) | Con 3 (-3) | Lib Dem 2 (-5)
The SNP have taken many seats from Labour, including Glasgow Anniesland, Glasgow Cathcart and Glasgow Kelvin. The SNP also took Aberdeen South & Kincardine North and Aberdeenshire West from the Lib Dems.
However the Lib Dems have held onto the Orkney Islands and the Shetland Islands.
Welsh
31 of the 60 contested seats have been declared.
The results so far are:
Lab 23 (+4) | PC 3 (-1) | Con 4 (+0) | Lib Dem 1 (-1) | Other 0 (-2)
Labour have held on to most of their seats so far, even increasing their share of the vote by 9% in Pontypridd. Labour also gained Llanelli from Plaid Cymru and Blanau Gwent from an independent candidate.
While the Lib Dems held on to Brecon and Radnorshire, the party lost Montgomeryshire to the Conservatives.
English
110 of the 279 seats being contested have been declared.
The results so far are:
Con 56 (+1) | Lab 29 (+12) | Lib Dem 4 (-4) | No overall control 21 (-7)
Labour gain in Gravesham, taking eight seats of the Tories to take control for the first time since 2003. The Tories had a majority of 9,312 at the last general election.
Labour gain ten seats from the Liberal Democrats in Kingston-upon-Hull, and 11 seats from the Lib Dems in Liverpool.
The Lib Dems hold Cambridge, Eastbourne, Portsmouth and Eastleigh. They lose Bristol, Hull and Stockport.
Northern Irish
Counting began earlier this morning and no results have been announced as yet.

Journalists seem to have overlooked Cheshire West & Chester results. Labour are +19 seats! Some of this comes from boundary changes, but that should not be allowed to overshadow excellent results.
