'Big gob' Labour MP Jess Phillips tells Diane Abbott to f*** off
Labour's Jess Phillips has revealed that she told Diane Abbott to “fuck off” at a gathering of the party's MPs on Monday.
The row came after Phillips spoke out at the meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party, asking Jeremy Corbyn about his failure to award a top shadow cabinet job to a woman.
Abbott is then said to have turned on Phillips, accusing the new MP of asking a "sanctimonious" question and telling her: “You’re not the only feminist in the PLP.”
Asked what happened next, Phillips, said today:
“I roundly told her to fuck off... I said: Who the fuck do you think you are?”
And what did Abbott do after that suggestion?
“She fucked off.”
Speaking to the Huffington Post, the Birmingham Yardley MP added that others had told her "they had always wanted to say that" to Abbott, who was recently made shadow international development secretary (and is reported to have had a brief romantic relationship with Corbyn in the 1970s).
The comments come a few months after a wide-ranging interview with TP in which Phillips told us she had a “big gob” and that she was not afraid to stand up to her opponents:
“I won’t be silenced. Never ever. If I think somebody’s wrong, I’ll tell them.”
Clearly, she wasn’t lying...
