Tory MP Rebecca Pow takes Maggie-worshipping to new levels

The Taunton Deane MP declared that Mrs T is alive and well.

Last year, Conservative MPs were urged by two grandees to harness the essence of Margaret Thatcher to prevent a Jeremy Corbyn-led government.

“The challenge… is to meet the challenges of the 21st century with the same zealous spirit that [Keith] Joseph and Thatcher did,” wrote 1922 Committee chair Graham Brady and former party chairman Lord Saatchi.

But has one Tory MP taken their instructions a tad too literally?

When asked for her "living political hero" during a quickfire quiz on BBC Radio 5Live this weekend, Rebecca Pow shocked presenter John Pienaar with her response.

"Oh, Margaret Thatcher!"

When Pienaar pointed out that the former prime minister was “not living”, the Taunton Deane MP was having none of it.

"She is living!" said Pow, who entered the Commons in 2015. “She's right next to my bed at the moment because my husband in my Christmas stocking gave me a little book about her.

"So at the moment she's living with me every night."
