Jared O’Mara begins his ‘phased return’ to Westminster life
The under-fire MP was greeted warmly by at least one colleague...
On his first day back in the Commons for months, Jared O’Mara received something of a mixed reception.
The Sheffield Hallam MP was suspended by Labour in October and is facing an investigation over claims that he recently called a barmaid an "ugly bitch".
He has been signed off work for the past month, but he is now resuming work in Parliament and his constituency as part of a “phased return”.
As O’Mara turned up in the Commons chamber on Wednesday afternoon, fellow Labour MP Tracey Brabin was spotted giving a hug to her under-fire colleague who once wrote that singer Michelle McManus had only won Pop Idol “because she was fat”.
Sources suggested that O’Mara might get a somewhat different reception were he to bump into Labour’s Jess Phillips who recently wrote that “of course Toby Young shouldn't have the job, neither should Jared O'Mara”.
Meanwhile Conservative MP Simon Hoare enjoyed telling his Twitter followers that he had seen the Labour MP who had not previously attended a Commons vote since October 18 and is yet make his maiden speech.
“Just seen the Lesser Spotted Jared O’Mara in the House of Commons. I’m hoping for a dodo tomorrow,” he taunted.
