Boris Johnson has had enough of being top Brexit attack dog, says ally

It's not first time that such noises have been made...

The not-so-secret weapon of the Cabinet's Brexit contingent has been deployed.

Boris Johnson came out swinging on Monday night over the so-called 'customs partnership' proposal being pushed by Theresa May. The foreign secretary used an interview with the Daily Mail to rubbish the plan as "crazy" and "something that would create “a whole new web of bureaucracy”.

Most importantly, he said the plan - which will leave the UK collecting tariffs on behalf of Brussels while operating its own independent regime – did not amount to "taking back control".

But is Johnson is getting tired of being the attack dog of the Brexiteers? In what sounds like a call to arms for Michael Gove, Liam Fox and the like to get more stuck in, one ally has told The Sun:

“Boris is completely fed up. He thinks he is the only one pushing Brexit now.”

It comes four months after pals said much the same to PoliticsHome...

Perhaps Johnson would like to be free to spend more time lobbying Donald Trump and baffling US citizens by appearing on the president's favourite TV show...
