Watch: Did the Commons leader deliver best coded attack on John Bercow yet?

John Bercow has been congratulated by many MPs for letting them vote on Dominic Grieve’s amendment. But hardcore Brexiteers are hopping mad at the Speaker for letting parliament take back some control over the Brexit process.

“I have been here for 18 years and I have never known any occasion when any Speaker has overruled a motion of the House of Commons,” fumed Mark Francois.

According to The Sun (which has also worked itself up into a frenzy) chief whip Julian Smith accused Bercow of “throwing centuries of precedence in the bin to thwart the referendum result”.

Commons leader Andrea Leadsom also hit out at the Speaker when she appeared on Peston last night. But at least she steered clear of any personal insults. Or did she?

Helping out on the Peston Political Bafta Awards, the senior Brexiteer got to award the gong for ‘best villain’.

In doing so, she told how she was fed up with “an incredibly annoying little creature that squeaks a lot and has found a place in the corridor outside my office”.

Intriguingly, Leadsom added that she had a plan to "get rid" of the offender.

Then she clarified that she was talking about a mouse. Obviously.
